This past September, we were fortunate enough to adopt this little guy, later named Flaps Phillip Poulos. Here he is the week after he joined us at home, coming in at 11 lbs., when most dogs of his breed (Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier) are at least 20 lbs.
Not to turn this post into a Sarah McLoughlin commerical, but Flaps started his life at a pet store in Missouri, where the owners went belly-up and locked the doors and walked away. The police were in about a week later once the situation was reported, and Flaps was one of 27 dogs rescued, according to the adoption agency where we adopted him.
ARF is the Animal Rescue Foundation, located in Wheaton, IL (they do not have offices, but are a home-foster based agency system). They are constantly posting and placing animals into happy, safe homes. Check out their web site here. They will also take any animals you can no longer care for and work to place them with a new family.
Now he is back on track at a healthy weight of 40 lbs. and we were luck to celebrate his first birthday this past week on June 1! He has a wonderful personality, not to mention a fun and cuddly disposition. The creators of Teddy Ruxpin would have gone in a different direction if they'd seen this little guy first:

This isn't actually Flaps, but a friend in the same breed. I found this on Pinterest and couldn't agree more. This is exactly how he jumps into your arms!
