Today's project: Summer Burlap Wreath for my front door.

  • 1 pool noodle ($1 at the Dollar Tree)
  • Krylon Chalkboard Spray Paint (already had this in the cabinet, originally paid $5.99)
  • Scotch Tape
  • Scissors
  • 22 Gauge Floral Wire ($1.99 at Jo-Ann Fabrics)
  • 1 Yard Burlap Fabric ($3.99/yard)
  • Duct Tape

Starting materials

Duct tape the pool noodle closed into a circle

Slice the burlap into 3" strips. I ended up cutting around 10 strips to completed the wreath.

Starting off -- used a little scotch tape to hold the first piece of burlap in place.

Overlap the burlap as you wrap. I used a small piece of scotch tape when starting a new piece of burlap, then covered the tape with the burlap as I wrapped.

Completed the wrapping job. Holding the last piece of burlap in place with a piece of scotch tape.

Close-up of the wrapping job.

I pulled a few long strands our of the leftover burlap and braided them to make a sturdy string.

Wrapped the braided piece around the last flap of burlap.

I spray painted a cardboard letter with black chalkboard paint to attach to the wreath.

Sliced two 1" pieces of burlap to tie the letter onto the wreath.

I used a piece of 22 guage wire to hold the letter onto the wreath, using pliers to twist the wire from the back and tighten. Then I covered it with the two pieces of burlap over the wire.

I had 6 white silk roses from another project and plucked them off the stems. Using the same 22 gauge wire (a 12" piece), I created a small loop at the top, and fed the non-looped end through the hole in the middle of the flower where the stem was. The loop prevents the rose from falling off of the wire.

I did this will all 6 roses. I used 1 to the left of the letter, and gathered the other 5 in a bouquet. Once I had the roses in a bouquet that looked good, I used the pliers to twist their wires into one twisted piece. I then wrapped that twisted piece around the wreath, again covering with a 1" piece of burlap, knotted in the back.

Finished product! I need to put my hands on my wreath hanger for the front door, then it will be up!

Cleaning a Pack-n-Play

My mommy friends often ask me how to clean a Pack-n-Play. Likely because my toddler is all about making the biggest messes possible. After a few rounds of taking a damp rag to it like the manual suggests (HA), I thought, there has to be a more effective way to do this. Look at that dingy grossness:

So what does Pinterest suggest we use to clean, like, everything? Dawn and White Vinegar. I'll try anything once.

Here's how it went down:

1) Filled a bathtub with hot hot hot water, 1 c Dawn and 2 c White Vinegar.

2) Folded up the Pack-n-Play, shaking out any crumbs (there are always crumbs), and laid the whole thing down into the hot bath. I ran my hands along the netting and material to agitate any dirt and grime off of them.

3) Allow to soak about 15 minutes. To rinse, I drained out the tub water, then turned on the shower and hopped in to direct the shower head all over the Pack-n-Play to rinse well.

4) To dry, you can either lug it outside, pop it open (upside down) and allow to …
